The Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) was an organization created by the Union Veterans of the Civil War. The G.A.R. existed from 1866 to 1956. During the 90-years of its existence, over 10,000 G.A.R. Veterans Posts were formed. Within Michigan, 463 Posts were formed. Michigan's G.A.R. Memorial Hall and Museum is the only museum in Michigan exclusively dedicated to the memory of the Union veterans of the Civil War and the fraternal, veterans’ organization they founded and in which they participated.

Michigan's G.A.R. Memorial Hall and Museum is located in downtown Eaton Rapids, Michigan in the actual 1886 built G.A.R. Post building that the veterans used and which is just a block away from G.A.R. Island Park where Civil War veterans held annual summer reunions for many years.

Michigan's G.A.R. Memorial Hall and Museum is open the first and second Wednesdays of each month, patriotic holidays, city-wide festivals and most importantly, by appointment (all you need to do is to call us and we will arrange to have the museum opened up for you). Admission is free, but donations are always appreciated!

Michigan's G.A.R. Memorial Hall and Museum is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Michigan non-profit corporation. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
